DNS settings

Here you can configure what DNS servers (up to 3 servers) should be used by the appliance, what DNS domain it belongs to and what search order it should use.

StoredSafe does not require DNS to function — if every remote destination you configure (backup host, remote syslog, OCSP responder, RELP servers, NTP peers, SMTP relay) is given as an IP address, DNS can be left unset entirely. DNS becomes relevant as soon as any of those destinations are configured using a hostname instead of an IP address.

Note

If DNS is misconfigured or unreachable, hostname-based operations (backup transfer, NTP sync, OCSP/CRL fetching, SMTP relay, RELP) will start failing while IP-address-based configuration keeps working. If backups or NTP suddenly stop working after a network change, first verify that the configured nameservers themselves are reachable using a connectivity test (the built-in ping/traceroute tool only accepts IP addresses, so it cannot test name resolution directly — as a workaround, try switching the affected destination to a raw IP address temporarily to isolate whether DNS is the cause).
